Ferran Utzet directs the staging the of text by Brian Friel Translations (1981), a show produced by La Perla which was one of the biggest hits of Billboard in Barcelona last season.
The play tells the attempted destruction of the Irish language (Irish Gaelic variety) by the British Empire. It is set in the imaginary town of Baile Beag (where Friel puts much of his books) in the year 1830 A detachment of military cartographers arrives on the island with the mission of putting the name in English to the Gaelic names. But this mission is part of a broader strategy to remove the Irish language from public life.
In this version of Ferran Utzet all characters speak in Catalan but with different accents according to rural or urban origin. Performed by Jenny Beacraft, Ivan Benet, Oscar Castellví, Oscar Intente, Montse Morillo, Albert Triola, Júlia Truyol, David Vert and Ramon Vila.
