This co-production of the Auditorio de Tenerife and the Teatro Regio di Parma Melodrama of Giuseppe Verdi's work is presented within the XXXVI Opera Season of the Teatre Principal de Palma. Un ballo in maschera is an opera in three acts with an Italian libretto by Antonio Somma, based on Eugène Scribe's libretto for the opera Gustave III o Le bal masqué.
The libretto used is that of a Swedish setting, as conceived by Giuseppe Verdi for the debut in Rome, before the papal censors imposed the transposition of the story in colonial Boston. Conspiracies, entanglements, romances and superstitions weave this opera by Verdi, premiered at the Teatro Apollo in Rome in 1859.
Critical edition of the score by Ilaria Narici, The University of Chicago Press, Chicago, and Casa Ricordi, Milan.
With musical direction by Andrea Sanguineti and stage direction by Marina Bianchi, soloists include Antonio Corianò (tenor), Oksana Sekerina (dramatic soprano), Mercedes Darder Garcia (coloratura soprano), Alisa Kolosova (mezzo), Krassen Karagiozov (dramatic baritone) , Bartomeu Bibiloni (baritone), Pablo López (bass), Sebastià Serra (bass), Joan Laínez (tenor), Jordi Fontana (tenor) and the Illes Balears Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Pablo Mielgo.
