This opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini, libretto by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica was premiered with great success in Rome in January 1900. The text of the play is based on Tosca, a drama written by Frenchman Victorien Sardou set in Rome occupied by Napoleon's troops.
The Opera Season of the Teatre Principal offers the full version of Tosca, from March 30to April6, and also this reduced version directed at families and people not used to the big opera productions.
With stage direction by Carles Ortiz and musical direction by Fernando Marina, featuring the Orquestra Acadèmia 1830, the soprano Maria Jose Perello (Tosca), tenor Gabriel Blanco (Cavaradossi), baritone Pablo López (Scarpia), bass Josep Vives (Sexton and gendarme Sciarrone) and tenor Roger Berenguer (the police officer Spoletta).
