'Tony Cragg sculptures'

The building of Sa Llotja, one of the best examples of Gothic architecture in Mallorca, hosts this exhibition by British sculptor Tony Cragg. The sample consists of nine sculptures of different sizes and materials involving a review of the past six years of the artist.

Tony Cragg (Liverpool, 1949) is considered one of the most important sculptors of the international scene. In 1988 he won the Turner Prize and in 2007 the Praemium Imperiale, awarded by the Japan Art Association. He was one of the pioneers in the use of recycled materials and realized his first Works  with discarded construction materials and household wastes. In the seventies he collected fragments of plastic  and placed them by colors, creating various works such as New-Stones-Newtons Tones.

One of the sculptures in the exhibition corresponds to this period. Congregation  (1999), in which he used a former vessel  filling it with spikes. The rest is a selection of pieces that best harmonize in this spectacular space and are made of wood, bronze, iron, stone or plaster.
