'The Wizard of Oz'

2009 marked the 70th anniversary of the premiere of the film adaptation of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, a classic of children's literature written by American Lyman Frank Baum and illustrated by WW Denslow. First published in 1900, follows the adventures of young Dorothy Gale in the wonderful land of Oz.

Commemorating this date, producer MundiArtistas embarked on mounting this musical directed by Alber Ponte. The cast included Oliver Satisfecho, Javier Muñoz, Zalo Calero, Marta Sam, Germán Vigara, Lucía Zubiri and Pilar Alonso.

The Wizard of Oz contains some of the songs that are now part of the collective imagination as Over the Rainbow, with music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E. Y. "Yip" Harburg, authors of the soundtrack of the film. For this work they got the Oscar for best original score and best song in 1939.

Precisely this year's Oscars have paid homage to the film in 2014 celebrates its 75th anniversary.
