El motet (motete, in Spanish) is a polyphonic composition created in the 12th century to be sung in churches with text, generally biblical. But it is throughout the 19th century when many of the great representatives of musical romanticism adopt this type of composition as a form of expression, adapting it to the new precepts in terms of form and harmony.
The romantic motet is the twenty-fourth production by the Art Vocal Ensemble which, in co-production with the Fundació Studium Aureum, is presenting at the church of Sant Bartomeu in Sóller. With it we immerse ourselves in the musical universe of four leading authors of this period and with special sensitivity towards the sacred genre: Felix Mendelssohn, Anton Bruckner, Josef Rheinberger and Carl Gottlieb Reissiger.
This is an innovative proposal in which the hermanadas Art Vocal Ensemble, directed by Llorenç Gelabert Gual, and Studium, chamber choir, directed by Carles Ponseti Verdaguer, participate. Both groups intend to provide a new way of understanding the musical fact, both in the introduction of repertoires and in interpretive practice.
