It is one of the most popular titles and Mozart's last opera staged in the composer's lifetime. It was released on September 30, 1791 under the direction of Mozart himself, just two months before his death. With libretto by German Emmanuel Schikaneder and structured in two acts, The Magic Flute is part of the dramatic-musical form called Singspiel, a popular type of German opera in which sung parts are interspersed with spoken parts.
The assembly now presented within the Opera Season of the Teatre Principal de Palma is a production of Teatro Villamarta de Jerez and it attempts to pay homage to the German baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, one of the greatest Mozart specialists singers who died in May 2012.
Precisely, his son Martin Fischer-Dieskau is in charge of the musical direction, while the stage direction rests in the hands of Francisco Lopez, involving the Cor del Teatre Principal, the Balearic Symphony Orchestra 'Ciutat de Palma' and a lineup of a dozen opera singers.
