In 1987 Californian artist Suzanne Vega achieved stratospheric success with Luka, and since then she has maintained a strong and dedicated cult following. A song that will not be missing from the repertoire of this concert entitled An Evening with Suzanne Vega-Old Songs New songs and Other songs.
On stage Suzanne Vega will be accompanied by her lifelong guitarist, Gerry Leonard, also well known for being the guitarist of other great artists such as David Bowie, Laurie Anderson and Rufus Wainwright.
Suzanne Vega, raised in Spanish Harlem and the Upper West Side of New York, was one of the first important figures of the crop of singer-songwriters who rose to fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Her folk-pop lyrics laid the foundation for what later became the signature sound of Lilith Fair (an all-female tour on which she was a regular). Additionally, her hit single Luka helped convince record companies that female singer-songwriters were not a thing of the past, paving the way for names like Tracy Chapman, Michelle Shocked and Sinéad O'Connor.
