Saint Anthony (Sant Antoni) is the most important local festivals of Sa Pobla, declared of Cultural Interest (FIC) in October 2015 by the Consell de Mallorca. It is also one of the most ancestral festivals of Mallorca, linked to the ancient fertility rites. The night of the 16th the streets and squares are filled with bonfires and the neighbors grill sobrasada, a soft mallorcan sausage made with ground pork, paprika, salt and other spices. They also grill other typical cold meat specialties.
The dimonis, devils that have their characteristic dance, are also a form of entertainment as well as the reciters in Catalan language, famous for their songs full of irony. In the day of the Saint’s festivity, the beneïdes are celebrated, which consist in a parade of chariots and the blessing of domestic animals.
