'Divine sacrilege Carmina Burana'

The head of the Orquestra Simfònica Illes Balears, Pablo Mielgo, conducts this concert dedicated to the magnificent work of Carl Orff, Carmina Burana, based on a collection of Goliard chants from the 12th and 13th centuries found in the 19th century in a document found in the Benediktbeuern Abbey (Bavaria).

Carl Orff premiered Carmina Burana in 1937, structured as a scenic cantata for orchestra and choirs, with the intervention of soloists (soprano, tenor and bass) and giving a prominent role to percussion. Its spectacular nature, the halo of mystery that surrounds it and its appearance in films such as Excalibur or The Seventh Seal have made it one of the most popular musical works. So much so, that since 2003 it has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The Orquestra Simfònica Illes Balears, the University Choir of the Balearic Islands, Blauets de Lluc and the soloists Amparo Navarro (soprano), Joaquín Asiain (tenor) and Günter Haumer (baritone) take part.
