Kurdish musician Rusan Filiztek is a young saz virtuoso who in 2019 received the ICI Music Prize, the great national award for world music. He arrives in Mallorca for his performance at Ses Voltes, within the framework of the Cançons de la Mediterrània 2022 festival.
Rusan Filiztek is originally from Diyarbekir, in southeastern Turkey, and learned to play the saz from his father. This instrument, a type of long-necked lute, is played in countries such as Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Syria, and the Balkans.
He later studied at various music schools in his country and for years traveled to the Middle East to delve into Kurdish, Turkish, Greek and Armenian/Aramaic music and singing.
In 2015 he moved to Paris, where he studied musicology at the Sorbonne University, and since 2016 he participates in the Orpheus XXI European project. From Jordi Savall to the Greek Solon Lekkas. During all these years, Rusan Filiztek has forged greats with musicians from different backgrounds, which has enriched his oriental repertoire between jazz, baroque and traditional music.
