This film has been rated by the American Film Institute as one of the ten best films of the Western genre. Directed by Howard Hawks in 1948 and based on a novel by Borden Chase, it stars John Wayne, Montgomery Clift, Joanne Dru, Walter Brennam and Coleen Gray.
It tells the story of a farmer and his adopted son, who after the Civil War, seek to transfer ten thousand head of cattle from Texas to Missouri.
