Curated by Enrique Juncosa, Es Baluard presents the first retrospective exhibition of the work of Rafel Joan (Palma de Mallorca, 1957). His first solo exhibition took place at the legendary Galeria 4 Gats of Palma in 1983, covering this period up to 2013 summarized in 46 paintings and a set of drawings from a selection of the artist's books.
Although in the first years one could understand his work within the context of Neo-expressionism and what is known as return to figuration - two dominating trends in the 80s in a large part of the world -, his style was soon depurated in the search of a meditation essentiality which has little to do with Expressionism. In the last years the theme of his work is focused, almost in an exclusive manner, on the landscape surrounding him.
The inauguration ceremony will be held on April 2 at 20:00 hours and then there will be a concert starring Pere Pla and Betta Esplenders(21:15 h).
