Pere Pubill Calaf worldwide known by his stage name, Peret, but also as the 'king of rumba' and, above all, as the creator of the Catalan rumba, a genre that emerged in the late 50s of the twentieth century and which is the result of the fusion between mambo and rock and roll.
The 70's were particularly rich in successes for this Gypsy singer, guitarist and composer born in Barcelona in 1935. From this period are famous themes like Una Lágrima, Borriquito or Gitano Antón. In 1982, in the zenith of his career, Peret entered the Evangelical Church of Philadelphia and left show business. Almost a decade later, in 1991, he returns to the stage and records No se pué aguantar, to be followed by up to nine CD’s more. The latest is from 2009 and is entitled De los cobardes nunca se ha escrito nada (Nothing has ever been written about cowards).
Música contada (Music told) is the new show with which he is touring the Spanish stages this summer. Accompanied by his musicians and singers, Peret tells the true story of Catalan rumba with a scenic recreation that will be reviewing the highlights of his repertoire throughout his long career.
