Italian guitarist Pasquale Grasso is considered one of the most unique artists of his generation. He has changed the way the world views the jazz guitar. He appears with his quartet at the Alternatilla Jazz festival, which in this edition has Italy as the guest country.
Grasso was born in Ariano Irpino 34 years ago, but currently resides in New York. He has always been more interested in bebop pioneers like Powell, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie and the classical guitar tradition than classical jazz guitarists.
His latest album is Be-Bop!, which kicks off spectacularly with Dizzy Gillespie's quintessential composition, A Night in Tunisia, written in 1942 when he was a member of Benny Carter's band.
The quartet is completed by Ari Roland (bass) and Keith Balla (drums). Samanta Joy performs as a guest vocalist on the song I'm in a Mess.
