Zurich Chamber Orchestra

Conductor and violinist Daniel Hope participates for the third consecutive year at the Festival of Pollença. In this 55rd edition, directing the Zurich Chamber Orchestra and as violin soloist, also with German pianist Sebastian Knauer and concertmaster Willi Zimmermann, with a program consisting of works by Edward Grieg, Bach, Edward Elgar and Felix Mendelssohn.

Founded in 1945 by Edmond de Stoutz, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra is one of the leading formations of this type. Its current musical director is Daniel Hope, considered one of the greatest violin virtuosos and winner in 2015 of the European Cultural Award for Music.

That same year he recorded Escape Paradise - which investigates European composers persecuted by fascism who emigrated to Los Angeles - and in February 2016 his tenth album, My Tribute to Yehudi Menuhin.

For his part, the performance style of German pianist Sebastian Knauer (Hamburg, 1971) has earned him great success and has placed his name on the international music scene.

In 2009 he joined the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Felix Mendelssohn with Pure Mendelssohn, which became the Editor's Choice of Gramophone Magazine. Sebastian Knauer has also created his own festival, Mozart @ augsburg, of which he is artistic director.

Finally, the Swiss Willi Zimmermann is concertmaster of the Chamber Orchestra of Zurich since 2008, serving as director on numerous occasions. Since this year he directs the Berliner Barock Solisten, the Baroque formation of the Berlin Philharmonic.
