The actor and singer Joan Vázquez puts himself in the shoes of Ocaña in this play with stage direction and dramaturgy by Mar Rosich and musical direction by Marc Sambola, who also performs on guitar. The musical is part of the XXXIII Mediterranean Poetry Festival.
Ocaña was a truly unclassifiable artist who broke through as a performer decades before few knew what it meant to do a performance. Through his artistic interventions, the naive painter became a pioneering activist for LGTBI rights.
Ocaña, Reina de Las Ramblas reviews the most important chapters in his life and his tragic death at 36 years of age. The show has been chosen as Best Musical and Best Actor in a Musical at the 2019 Critics Awards and Best Musical Show and Best Actor in a Musical at the Premis Teatre Barcelona 2019. Language: Spanish. Recommended age: from 14 years.
