Open days

Open days at Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró on the ocassion of the  Balearic Islands Day. It is one of the few museums in the world that offers the possibility to contemplate the atmosphere created by the artist through his workshops. In 1979, Joan Miró (1893-1983) and his Majorcan wife, Pilar Juncosa, donated to the city of Palma the workshops of Son Boter (dating from the seventeenth century) and built by Catalan architect Josep Lluis Sert, which was the starting point of this foundation. In 1992 a modern concrete building designed by Rafael Moneo was added which, next to the gardens with sculptures of the artist make up the current premises.

The permanent collection is displayed in various spaces. On the one hand, you can see a selection of works by Miró that give prominence to the color red, and, secondly, a set of pieces belonging to the collection of the Foundation grouped by thematic criteria. It works almost like a temporary exhibition that changes every four months and offers different readings of the Catalan artist's work.

The Espai Zero is usually used for temporary exhibitions and in Son Boter graphical workshops are held. You can also see a documentary directed by Marti Rom in 1979, and in the library, the book Monument à Christophe Colomb et à Marcel Duchamp, illustrated by Miró together with other artists.
