Nit del Born

For three days Palma is going to become a city that is open to Christmas with a host of activities that will liven up the main streets, where art galleries and shops stay will open until midnight.

This Christmas Weekend Out starts on November 29 with the lighting of the Christmas lights, hosted by the taekwondo Olympic medalist Brigitte Yague. This will be at seven o'clock, after which time will be closed to traffic the streets Unió, Jaume III and the Passeig del Born to become a large pedestrian area. Through them will parade the xeremiers (a kind of bagpipe players from Mallorca), the University Choir of Son Espases and the Palma Municipal Band. The model Nieves Alvarez will be responsible for giving the go-ahead to the commercial holiday.

At eight o'clock in the evening of the same day will be inaugurated the Christmas tree designed by artist Susy Gómez which will decorate the Casal Solleric. It has been dubbed Totes veus, and is designed as a unifying element of knowledge and language skills so some of the associations that make up the social fabric of the island can be heard as ARCA, Rana Foundation, Respiralia, GOB Auba, the Fons Mallorquí de Solidaritat or the Foundation Gaspar Hausser.

On the 30th and December 1 activities will continue with many Santa Claus handing out candy to the children, performances of Cir Bover and carol concerts. On Saturday, at 12:00, there will be a concert in the church of Sant Nicolau in order to raise funds for Es Refugi.
