A capella music from the Renaissance to the twentieth century is the title of the concert featuring this famous Moscow choir that closes the II International Festival of Sacred Music' Las lenguas de Dios' (Tongues of God). It consists of fourteen voices according to the tradition of ancient Russian churches and its director, Anatoly Grindenko, is a famous musician known for his performances with viola da gamba.
The first part consists of five anonymous compositions, Come, let us worship God, our King (opening verses), canto Znameni of the sixteenth century; Vespers Overture (Psalm 103/104) (sung Part), from the seventeenth century; Blessed is the man (Psalm 1), from the seventeenth century; Stikhira, the Apostikha on Friday Passion, XVI century; and Easter Liturgy, anonymous from XVI and XVII centuries.
The second part comprises European songs of the sixteenth to the twentieth century: Kyrie Eleison, by Th Tallis (1505-1585); Ave Maria, of Tomas Luis de Victoria (1540-1613); Sanctus, of W.Byrd (1543-1623); Ave Verum Corpues of W.A.Mozart (1756 -1791); Te Deum, D. Bortnyansky (1751-1825); Canticle of Simeon of S. Rachmaninov (1873-1943); and Insistent Litany of A. Grechaninov (1864-1956).
Outside the program, the Russian Patriarchate Choir will interpret in its encore Cancion del alma (Song of the soul), of the Spanish composer Federico Mompou (1893-1987).
The II International Festival of Sacred Music 'Las lenguas de Dios', produced by Euromúsica productions, programs a total of three concerts on 21, 24 and March 26 at the Basilica of Sant Francesc de Palma.
