Many experts of fado consider her the heir of Amalia Rodrigues, both in style and interpretation. Like the famous now disappeared Portuguese fado singer, Maria do Ceo sings on stage dressed in black and accompanied by two or three traditional instruments.
Do Ceo, who was born in Porto and living in Galicia since she was seven years old, began her career in 1988 and has since received half a dozen awards, given concerts in Europe and America and recorded thirteen studio albums. The last, from 2016, entitled De Portugal a Galicia (From Portugal to Galicia).
The concert will be held to benefit the Doctors Without Borders programs with refugees.
