The Basque artist Iñaki Gracenea (Hondarribia, 1972) presents this series of works created during the month of stay (July 2014) in the CCA as a resident artist. The Marentus project aims to study the prison system, both architecturally and in its impact on the individual. Gracenea uses the architecture of the nineteenth century prison to create organic shapes based on the rationality of the floor plans of various prisons.
Marentus also addresses issues such as symbolic violence, freedom, the individual, punishment or routine.
