Madeleine Peyroux

The singer, guitarist and American composer Madeleine Peyroux, a guarantee of class and good taste on stage, participates in the Jazz Voyeur Festival presenting her latest album, Anthem (2018).

The extraordinary journey of Madeleine Peyroux (Athens, Georgia, 1974) is one of the most attractive in the music industry. With eight albums released and 22 years since her debut with Dreamland (1996), Peyroux continues to challenge the confines of jazz.

In Anthem, in which musicians Patrick Warren, Brian MacLeod and David Baerwald have collaborated, projects a sober, poetic and, at times, philosophical look at the current state of the world.

The album came to life during the 2016 US elections and the songs fuse Peyroux's perspective, both publicly and personally, achieving that perfect balance of black humor and compassion. There are two covers on this album: Paul Eluard's World War II poem, Liberté, and the main song, the monumental Anthem by Leonard Cohen, which soon became Peyroux's personal anthem.

Inspired by her idol Leonard Cohen's ability to "suffer for work, but still presenting the listener with a friendly thought, "Peyroux sends a spiritual but clear message of hope, optimism and resilience in the face of a turbulent reality.
