The New York Times has described him as a pianist of magisterial elegance, power and knowledge. At 42 years, Leif Ove Andsnes (Norwegian, 1970) has carved a successful track record with his crystal clear sound, which makes him one of the most admired pianists of his generation.
He has received such prestigious awards as the Award for Best Soloist of the Royal Philharmonic Society, the Royal Order of St. Olav and the Gilmore Award, among others. The last one he received in his own country, winning the Spellemannprisen (a music award given to Norwegian artists) in the category Classical Music for his piano trios of Schumann.
In this concert, held in the new edition of the Chopin Festival de Valldemossa, he performs works by Beethoven (Sonata No. 21 and Sonata in F major op. 54) and Frederic Chopin (four vals, two ballds and a nocturne).
