Inscribed in the romantic-bel canto mold, the Donizetti opera L’elisir d’amore is a guarantee of enjoyment thanks to its suggestive, entertaining and melodic music. It contains one of the most famous tenor arias of the operatic genre, Una furtiva lágrima.
This new production of the Teatre Principal de Palma, which is now presented in its 33th Opera and Ballet Season, has been conceived by the Mallorcan director José Martret, promoter of original theatrical projects such as the already extinct Madrid theaters La Casa de la Portera and La Pensión de las Pulgas.
In L’elisir d’amore he makes his debut on the lyrical ground with an original approach: he places the love story between Nemorino and Adina in a hotel next to a Balearic beach in the sixties. It is also a nod to the aesthetic of the Grand Hotel Budapest by Wes Anderson.
For the setting it has a luxury ally, Lorenzo Caprile, who has designed the costumes. The cast is led by one of the most promising talents of contemporary bel canto, the tenor Xabier Anduaga (in the role of Nemorino). Beside him are Sara Blanch (Adina), Simón Orfila (Dulcamara), Joan Martín-Royo (Belcore) and Irene Mas (Gianetta).
In the pit, the Illes Balears Symphony Orchestra, directed by Yi-Chen Lin. The Cor del Teatre Principal also intervenes, under the direction of Pere Víctor Rado.
L’elisir d’amore is a comic opera in two acts with music by Gaetano Donizetti and libretto by Felice Romani. It was premiered at the Teatro della Canobbiana in Milan in 1832.
On April 27 a meeting with the artistic team of L'elisir d'amore takes place at CaixaForum.
