This US string quartet is one of the most famous and influential groups of our time, with thousands of concerts offered throughout the world, more than fifty recordings and more than 850 works and arrangements for string quartet commissioned by the group.
Now they visit for the first time the Festival of Pollença at this concert which include works written or arranged for Kronos Quartet Bryce Dessner, Terry Riley, Geeshie Wiley, Pete Townshend, Omar Souleyman, Fode Lassana Diabate, Nicole Lizee, N. Rajam and Missy Mazzoli.
In 2011, Kronos Quartet became the only worthy formation of two of the most prestigious awards in the music world: the Polar Music Prize (awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music) and the Avery Fisher Prize. They also won a Grammy for Best Chamber Music Performance (2004) and were elected Musicians of the Year 2003 by Musical America.
The group has performed live with a long list of leading music figures and intellectuals (Paul McCartney, Allen Ginsberg, Noam Chomsky, Tom Waits, David Bowie ...) and has played music for films like Mishima (1985) and Dracula (1999), both composed by Philip Glass.
Today, Kronos Quartet consists of David Harrington (violin), John Sherba (violin), Hank Dutt (viola) and Swunny Yang (cello).
