The courtyard of the Castillo de Bellver hosts this concert thanks to two great musicians: Jordi Savall, viola bow and rebel, and Dimitri Psonis with Arabic oud, santur, saz and percussion. The program is dedicated to the work of Dimitrie Cantemir Istambul (1673-1723) which Jordi Savall has recorded on an album.
This Catalan artist (Barcelona, 1941) - plays the viola da gamba, and is also conductor and musicologist specialized in early music - has recorded over 120 albums since 1968 as soloist, accompanied by other artists, as a member of other groups and directing formations founded by him.
Jordi Savall has received numerous awards: named Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Ministry of Culture of France, Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres and Chevalier of the Legion of Honor, Creu de Sant Jordi from the Generalitat de Catalunya and, among others, Gold Medal of Fine Arts by the Ministry of Culture of Spain.
Meanwhile, Dimitri Psonis (Athens, 1961) is a musician percussionist specializing in the study of ancient Mediterranean instruments. He is considered one of the best santuristas in the world today and collaborates with the Catalan musician.
