The 22nd edition of the Mallorca Jazz Sa Pobla begins with this quartet led by John Abercrombie from New York, one of the guitar masters of contemporary jazz who has most unusual sounds.
Tireless researcher, Abercrombie (1944) was playing with organist Johnny Hammond, after that he formed part of groups like Dreams - a band of jazz-rock to which also belonged drummer Billy Cobham and trumpet-player Randy Brecker- and New Directions, of drummer Jack DeJohnette. With whom in addition of bassist Dave Holland, he founded the group Gateway.
The guitarist currently leads one of the most consistent, exciting and creative quartets he has directed over the past three decades, with several works recorded with the record label ECM.
The compositions of Abercrombie for this group are the most daring and elegant of his long career and they immerse us in one of the golden eras of jazz. The quartet is formed by John Abercrombie (guitar), Marc Copland (piano), Drew Gress (bass) and Joey Baron (drums).
The Festival Mallorca Jazz Sa Pobla is organized by the City Council of Sa Pobla and programs five free outdoor concerts, held in the Plaça Major from August2 to 6. It also includes the 11th International Jazz Seminar with the Traveling School, a masterclass of saxophonist Perico Sambeat and an exhibition of photographs of Dani Alvarez in the Sala es Cavallets. It is one of the most anticipated events of the year in Mallorca for jazz lovers.
