Tenor sax Jean Toussaint arrives at the 27th Mallorca Jazz Sa Pobla accompanied by his quartet. Known for a powerful sound, together with the richness of his phrasing and originality of his creations, they make him a unique musician, current and at the same time respectful of the modern jazz tradition.
Jean Toussaint (Saint Thomas, USA, 1960) studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in New York. He began playing alongside Wallace Roney and from 1982 to 1986 he was part of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, one of the essential groups in the history of jazz. In 1987 he established his residence in Europe and since then he has developed an important career as leader of his own projects and playing alongside historical figures such as Gil Evans, Max Roach or Cedar Walton.
The current quartet is made up of Jean Toussaint (tenor sax), Antonio Mazzei (piano), Horacio Fumero (double bass) and David Xirgu (drums).
Half of the proceeds from the concert will go to the Associació Llar de Memòria.
