Son of a Haitian immigrant, Jean Paul Bourelly (Chicago, EEUU, 1960) began at age ten singing opera and learning to play the piano and drums, preferring the guitar shortly after. He has played with jazz legends like Elvin Jones, Roy Haynes and Miles Davis in 1988 in the midst of the fusion era of the legendary trumpet player.
Besides great jazz fusion guitarist, Jean Paul Bourelly has also developed his work in the area of rock, as a member of the Black Rock Coalition and collaborating with the likes of Robin Thrower, Jack Bruce, Terry Bozzio and Cassandra Wilson, among many others.
