IV Festival Internacional de Música Vila de Santanyí

The second concert of the IV International Music Festival Vila de Santanyí, featuring the Municipal Band of Palma which this year will celebrate its half century of existence.

It debuted on December 22 of 1966 at the Teatre Principal de Palma under the baton of its first conductor Julio Ribelles, and soon established itself as one of the youngest national professional groups, with a staff of 45 professionals which it maintains until today.

Currently directed by Salvador Sebastia, it is a very active band, with a season of concerts and several cycles of music that it develops annually. It also performs an important role in spreading Balearic composers, such as recordings of works by Antoni Torrandell, Miquel Marques, Bartomeu Oliver and Baltasar Moyà, among others.

The International Music Festival Vila de Santanyí is coordined by the pianist Miquel Estelrich and organized by the city council. Held until September and the collection of all concerts will go to social and conservation and dissemination of musical heritage of  Mallorca projects.
