This grand comic opera, with music by Gioachino Rossini to an Italian libretto by Cesare Sterbini opens the XXIX Opera Season of the Teatre Principal de Palma. Il barbiere di Siviglia is based on the eponymous comedy by French playwright Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais. Its premiere in February 1816 at the Teatro di Torre Argentina in Rome with the title of Almaviva, ossia l'inutil precauzione, failed miserably due to a series of fatal incidents.
This production of the Teatre Principal de Palma is an amazing version where humor and lightheartedness take a hilarious role. Is interpreted by César San Martín, Clara Mouriz, Juan José de León, Pablo Lopez, Marco Vinco, Yolanda Alvarez and Rodrigo Riera. Involving the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands and Cor del Teatre Principal, and has been staged by Eugenia Corbacho with musical direction by Fernando Marina.
The Opera Season XXIX also programs a reduced version of Il barbiere di Siviglia on February 7 and 14 at the same venue.
