Hortus Musicus

The XL Deià International Music Festival presents this ensemble created in Estonia by the violinist and director Andres Mustonen in 1972, when he graduated from Tallinn Music High School.

Since then, Mustonen is the director of Hortus Musicus, a group that specializes in performing early music, including European music of the 8th and 15th centuries, the Franco-Flemish school and Renaissance music.

The Deià International Music Festival has been held since 1978 in the music room of Son Marroig, one of the former properties of Archduke Luis Salvador in the Tramuntana mountains of Mallorca. It was created by the now defunct Patrick Meadows, jazz musician and poet, and his partner Stephanie Shepard. Since a few years, the artistic direction falls on the pianist Alfredo Oyagüez Montero.

It is dedicated to chamber music, although it also includes proposals for styles such as jazz or flamenco.
