Henri Texier Quintet

At the head of this formation is one of the great double bass players of contemporary jazz, and active since the sixties of the last century. We are talking about the French musician Henri Texier, who closes the 28th Mallorca Jazz Sa Pobla with his quintet.

Multi-instrumentalist, singer, conductor and composer, Henri Texier (Paris, 1945) began his career as a bassist playing in Parisian jazz clubs alongside Daniel Humair, accompanying figures of the genre such as Dexter Gordon and Chet Baker. He came face to face with free jazz with names like Don Cherry and Steve Lacy, among others.

In his twenties he founded a band that blended jazz with pop and world music and began a fruitful relationship with the Label Bleu record label, where he has released most of his discography.

In the early 1990s his son Sébastien joined the group as a saxophonist and clarinet player. Since the middle of that decade, North African sound motifs have played an important role in Texier's work, which testifies to the freshness and innate creativity of this musician who incorporates flutes, lute, percussion, piano and bass electric to its instrumental baggage.

The Mallorca Jazz Sa Pobla festival, organized by the Culture Department of the Sa Pobla City Council, is one of the most anticipated events for jazz lovers on the island. The 28th edition is held from July 26 to August 23, 2022 and schedules an opening concert in Plaza Major and four in Parc de Can Cirera Prim.

In addition to the concerts, the festival hosts the 17th Traveling School Play Jazz seminar, from August 12 to 14 at the Sa Congregació Cultural Center, the Literature and Jazz cycle and the photography exhibition Et regalo la meva mirada by Josep Lluís Luna, which will be shown outdoors at Parc de Can Cirera Prim from August 2nd to 23rd.
