More than forty years after the publication of The Third World (1970), considered one of the first examples of an encounter between jazz and world music, Giovanni Guidi pays tribute to the great Argentine saxophonist Gato Barbieri with a new and exciting musical ensemble. It is the first proposal of the 27è Mallorca Jazz Sa Pobla.
Giovanni Guidi is one of the most consistent and creative European pianists on the music scene, currently focused on contemporary jazz inspirations. Ojos de Gato is a suite dedicated to the great Gato Barbieri with a very eclectic repertoire: from tango to Don Cherry, from Enrico Rava to Abdullah Ibrahim, from Bernardo Bertolucci to traditional South American music.
Giovanni Guidi (piano) is accompanied by musicians of great talent and international recognition: Gianluca Petrella (trombone), James Brandon Lewis (tenor sax), Brandon López (double bass), Chad Taylor (drums and percussion) and Simone Padovani (drums and percussion ).
Half of the proceeds from the concert will go to the Associació Llar de Memòria.
