Each September, Santa Ponça (in the municipality of Calvià) commemorates the conquest of Mallorca by King Jaume I in 1229. For more than a week a busy program is held in the village, with sporting events, theater performances, music concerts, a medieval market with demonstrations of traditional crafts and cultural itineraries that follow the footsteps of Jaume I.
The main event of the Festival is the parade of Christian and Moorish troops to the sound of the xeremies (musical instrument similar to the bagpipes) and the municipal band, accompanied by members of the Escuela Caballista of Es Pas of Calvià. It ends with the final battle that is staged in the Santa Ponça beach.
