Sineu, this beautiful and busy village of Pla de Mallorca, especially during its weekly Wednesday market, jointly celebrates the festivity of St. Thomas and the slaughtering day display.
This is a unique opportunity, especially for tourists, to see how the pig slaughter is done in the traditional style. During the fair typical Mallorcan restaurants offer dishes made from pork, such as frito or loin with cabbage, among other traditional dishes.
The slaughtering is a secular tradition in Mallorca, even today it is still performed in villages. Formerly in the homes a pig was fattened and normally sacrificed in November at a party involving family and friends.
