With this new project, pianist Biel Duran aims to bring classical music closer using the rhythms of jazz. To do this he is inspired by composers like Chopin or Bach, but without really playing any of their works. He is accompanied by a lineup that includes bass, guitar, brass, percussion, voice, and Hammond.
The Mallorcan Biel Duran (Valldemossa 1964) studied music at the Conservatory of Palma and completed his training at the Zentrum in Vienna. At age 11 he gave his first concert in Son Marroig and then others followed as a sideman with the likes of Kevin Ayers and Mike Oldfield, when they still resided in Deia.
This project was christened Duran & Friends because he is always accompanied by friends and acquaintances of the cities where he offers concerts. In Deià he will start off with themes of boogie woogie and jazz pieces inspired by classical music, ending with rhythm and blues.
