With over 130 albums to his back, the American David Murray (Berkeley, 1955) is one of the most important saxophonists in the contemporary vanguard jazz scene. He opens Jazz Sa Pobla Mallorca, accompanied by Reiner Elizarde (bass), Pepe Rivero (piano) and John Betsch (drums).
He started playing in church with his parents, also musicians, and in 1974 moved to New York, where he met and played with the cream of free jazz. Five years later he formed an octet with which he recorded, what is so far his masterpiece Hope Scope (1987).
David Murray is one of those musicians able to link seamlessly the jazz tradition with modernity.
