The young Latvian pianist Daumants Liepins, winner of the 2019 Maria Canals International Music Competition, opens the XIII Pianino 2023 International Classical Music Festival with this concert held in the Frédéric Chopin and George Sand Cell of the Valldemossa Charterhouse.
Daumants Liepins (Ogre, Latvia- 1994) is considered one of the most exciting new talents in the piano world. In 2020 he topped Pianist magazine's list of pianists to watch following the release of his first solo album, Daumants Liepins-piano. In his country, he won the National Music Grand Prix.
He has performed as soloists with the most important Spanish orchestras, as well as the Liverpool Symphony Orchestra, the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra or the Belgian Symphony Orchestra, among others. He is currently an artist in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Brussels and at the Ingesund Piano Center in Sweden.
In the Cell of Frédéric Chopin and George Sand he performs a program with works by the Polish composer: Prelude in D flat major No. 15 Op. 28, Fantasy in F minor Op. 49, Studies No. 3 and No. 12 Op. 10, Polonaise in the flat major Op. 53 and Sonata in B minor Op. 58.
