She studied at the prestigious Juilliard School of Music in New York and is a doctor honoris causa from the University Andres Bello in her hometown). Since her professional debut in 1990 in the role of Cio Cio San in Madama Butterfly, she has performed in major theaters around the world performing many roles for soprano.
But without a doubt it is this great Puccini opera which has brought major awards, including the Lawrence Olivier Award in 2004 granted the Covent Garden in London.
