Cirque du Soleil

The Canadian company comes to Mallorca for the first time with a show created in 1994 to mark the tenth anniversary of its founding. Alegria (Joy), as it is called, is also one of the most successful in its famed career, defined by critics as a baroque ode to vitality, elegance and strength of youth.

The Cirque du Soleil was founded in 1984 by two former street performers, Guy Laliberté and Daniel Gauthier. No wonder, therefore, that the company defines itself as "a dramatic montage of circus arts and street entertainment." They also have the distinction of offering at each show different circus styles from around the world, but with a new theatrical approach which has no place for the use of animals. This causes them to be regarded as pioneers of contemporary circus.

Alegria is the seventh of the shows created by the company, which had a production cost of three million dollars. The main theme is the abuse of power and the struggle to regain freedom. Unlike other productions, has a darker lighting and music composition, using gothic arches and other elements that evoke a feeling of oppression.
