'Cinema Paradiso'

Cinema and its relationship with music is one of the ingredients of the Jazz Voyeur Festival program each year. In this its thirteenth edition, the film series is dedicated to the music of the Italian composer Enrico Morricone, who passed away last July.

The third and last of the three films being screened is Cinema Paradiso, a 1988 Italian film directed by Giuseppe Tornatore that won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

It tells the story of Salvatore, a boy from a small Italian town where the only hobby is going to the movies and who blindly believes that movies are magic. But one day, Alfredo, the operator, agrees to show him the mysteries and secrets behind a movie. Salvatore grows up, leaves town and thirty years later receives a message to return home. The final scene with the protagonist watching all the kisses in the cinema accompanied by the soundtrack, is a wonderful experience.
