The central act of the celebrations of the 35th anniversary of the Cor del Teatre Principal in Palma, celebrated during the year 2018, is this concert with the Orquestra Simfònica Illes Balears. In it they will perform, ten years after its premiere on this same stage, the Cantata del Rei en Jaume I, a composition by Antoni Parera Fons (National Music Award 2017) with lyrics by Guillem Frontera. The work was created in 2008 on behalf of the Consell de Mallorca on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the birth of King Jaume I.
The piece narrates the conquest of Mallorca by Jaume I giving voice also to the conquered Muslim Mallorcans. A co-production of the Teatre Principal and the Symphonic Orchestra of the Balearic Islands.
