Lee Krasner (1908-1984) was an influential American artist of abstract expressionism. From the hand of Hans Hofmann she knew the work of Picasso, Matisse and other European artists. In 1940 she began exhibiting and five years later marries with Jackson Pollock, one of the greatest exponent of this artistic movement.
The battle of the bands 'Lee Krasner' connects the Abstract Expressionism to social and musical phenomenon that took place in the USA during the 40s. These battles were born in the late 30s, in full swing of the big swing bands. Were held at the legendary Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, New York, where every orchestra stood at one end of the room and played simultaneously competing for the attention of the audience, mostly young 'lindy hop' dancers.
The Association Mallorca Swing presented in Aljub of Es Baluard this proposal that recreates the classic battles of bands in the same way as is currently done in some of the best swing festivals worldwide. Participating Monkey Doo and Long Time No Swing, two swing quartets with a repertoire of traditional songs.
Program:
• 9:30 pm - Monkey Doo performance (45 min).
• 10:30 pm - Long Time No Swing performance (45 min).
• 11:30 pm - Battle of bands (45 min).
