The second edition of this series of two concerts hosted by the Hotel Formentor opens with a piano recital by renowned conductor Daniel Barenboim. He will play his own piano, brought over especially from the Scala Theatre in Milan.
In this unique location, the hotel's Mediterranean gardens with the sea as a background he will perform works by Schubert and especially of Chopin, because of his link to Mallorca.
Although it’s his least known facet, Daniel Barenboim ( Buenos Aires , 1942 ) began piano lessons at age five with his mother first and then with his father, both pianists, debuting just two years later. His virtuosity aroused the interest of the Mozarteum in Salzburg, who invited him to continue his studies in the Austrian city and three years later he triumphed in its famous festival.
Throughout his career he has received many awards, including the Prince of Asturias, 2002 for the Project West- East Divan Orchestra, an initiative created in 1999 along with the writer of Palestinian origin Edward Said who every summer brings together a group of young musicians from Israel, Arabia or Spain.
