It is the last series created by renowned British sculptor Sir Anthony Caro (New Malden, 1924), one of the best representatives of Minimalism and modern constructivist. Like other contemporary artists, he studied engineering and this knowledge helped him to develop an abstract sculpture in line with the European artistic avant-garde.
In the 50s he was an assistant in the studio of the great Henry Moore and, later that decade he traveled to the United States where he got in contact with the work of David Smith, the father of abstract sculpture of this country.
The search for new forms of expression keeps this octogenarian artist still active, of which the exhibition Houses Series is a good example. It gathers sculptures by Anthony Caro in 2011, small format pieces in brass and bronze soldier.
