17è Seminario Traveling School Playjazz

Three days of lectures, classes in improvisation, combo rehearsals and live performances led by Jimmy Weinstein, director of the Traveling School. This cultural association is dedicated to carry out creative music seminars in the field of festivals, schools and social programs.

In 2022, the seminar invites the great musician and veteran trumpeter Ahmed Abdullah, from the legendary band Sun Ra Arkestra (1974-1994) and professor of the Sun Ra Ensemble at the New School in New York. He will direct The Unsung Heroes of the Sun Ra, a masterclass on his music and the (lesser-known) heroic musicians who were part of the Arkestra.

It will be held from August 12 to 14 at Sa Congregació with the participation of Ahmed Abdullah (conductor-trumpet), Monique Ngozi Nri (voice), Lilli Santon (voice), Tomas Fontin (saxophone), Toni Miranda (guitar), Alain Martin (double bass) and Jimmy Weinstein (drums).

The Mallorca Jazz Sa Pobla festival, organized by the Culture Department of the Sa Pobla City Council, is one of the most anticipated events for jazz lovers on the island. The 28th edition is held from July 26 to August 23, 2022 and schedules an opening concert in Plaza Major and four in Parc de Can Cirera Prim.

In addition to the concerts, the festival hosts the 17th Traveling School Play Jazz seminar, from August 12 to 14 at the Sa Congregació Cultural Center, the Literature and Jazz cycle and the photography exhibition Et regalo la meva mirada by Josep Lluís Luna, which will be shown outdoors at Parc de Can Cirera Prim from August 2nd to 23rd.
