La Traviata is an opera in three acts with music by Giuseppe Verdi and libretto in Italian by Francesco Maria Piave based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas (son) The Lady of the Camellias, published in 1852. Originally titled Violetta, the name of the main character, it is apparently based on the life of a Parisian courtesan.
