The Febrer Negre festival screens this 1981 French film directed by Bertrand Tavernier with music by Philippe Sarde, nominated for an Oscar for best foreign language film in 1982.
1.280 almas (Coup de torchon, original French title) is an adaptation of the well-known black novel 1,280 souls by Jim Thompson. The story takes place in French colonial Africa in 1938 and tells of the adventures of the police chief of a miserable town that nobody takes seriously. One day he decides to do justice himself.
It is screened in the original version with subtitles in Spanish. Not recommended for children under 13 years of age.
The festival de novela negra de Palma Febrer Negre is held from February 12 to 19 and is organized by Palma City Council and Embat llibres and Quars Llibres bookstores.
